Comparison
Triathlon training apps compared
A triathlon training app has to balance three sports, plus strength, inside one week you can actually live with. We compared nine options on price for a season, strength, watches, and whether you can talk to the plan, with each app’s own site as the source.
Prices and features checked on on each app’s own website. We make TextFit, one of the apps on this page.
Short answer:
- Most data-driven: TriDot ($14.99 to $99 a month, more for a coach).
- Strongest on the bike, indoors: TrainerRoad ($21.99 a month).
- AI planners around $20 a month: AI Endurance, Athletica, HumanGO.
- Free, on Garmin: Garmin Coach’s triathlon plan.
- Free plan, no watch sync: MOTTIV.
- Buy a coach’s plan: TrainingPeaks.
- Garmin or Apple Watch, with strength in the same plan: TextFit ($14.99 a month or $99.99 a year after a 14-day free trial).
What a triathlon training app should do
- Count hard days across sports: a hard swim, ride and run on three days in a row is three hard days.
- Targets per sport (run pace, bike power, swim pace per 100 m), from a test when you don’t know them.
- Place strength where it doesn’t wreck the next key session.
- Put structured workouts on your watch and bend when the pool is closed on Thursday.

The apps, one by one
TriDot
The most data-heavy option. Its FitLogic engine sets your swim, bike and run baseline (normalized for temperature, humidity and elevation), scores how well you executed each session and predicts race pacing. Garmin, Apple Watch, COROS and Wahoo. Lifestyle $14.99 a month covers one sprint or Olympic race, Essentials $39 up to three races, Complete $99 adds unlimited races and strength, coached $249; two weeks free. Best for: age-groupers who like metrics.
HumanGO
An adaptive plan around your availability; its AI coach Hugo reads workouts, heart rate, sleep and fatigue and adjusts it automatically, for swim, bike, run and strength. Garmin, Apple Watch, Suunto, Polar and Strava. Premium, recommended for triathletes, is $28.99 a month or $264.99 a year. Best for: an AI planner with a coach persona.
Athletica
“Your training finally answers back”: an AI Coach that explains your history, fitness and fatigue, while the plan adapts from your performance and recovery. Triathlon, duathlon, running, cycling, rowing and HYROX, with a baseline test for your zones. $19.90 a month or $189 a year; Garmin, COROS, Wahoo, Strava and Concept2. Best for: a science-led plan explained.
AI Endurance
Trains a “Digital Twin” of how you respond to training and re-optimizes the plan; its coach chat can move the long ride or swap a session. Pushes to Garmin, Suunto, COROS, Wahoo, Hammerhead and more, and to Apple Watch through the third-party Watchletic app. $20 a month or $200 a year. Best for: data-minded triathletes.
MOTTIV
Triathlon, running, duathlon, cycling and swimrun plans with each workout explained, plus strength, mobility and nutrition. Free for one race at a time without device connections; Premium ($19.99 a month or $179.99 a year) adds them. Best for: first-time triathletes on a budget.
TrainerRoad
A cycling app first: triathlon plans from sprint to full distance in 8-week blocks, power-based bike workouts, pace-based runs and swims with drills, adapted by TrainerRoad AI and runnable inside Zwift. $21.99 a month or $209.99 a year. Best for: triathletes whose bike split matters most and who ride indoors.
Garmin Coach
Garmin Triathlon Coach is free in Garmin Connect: pick your race, schedule pool days and two-a-days, and get adaptive recommendations with optional strength. Best for: Garmin owners who want a free plan.
TrainingPeaks
Owned by Garmin since July 2026 and used by many triathlon coaches. Premium $134.99 a year; plans and coaches are sold separately, live coaching from $149 a month. Syncs to Garmin, Apple Watch, Wahoo and Zwift. Best for: a specific coach’s plan or a human coach.
TextFit
Our app: an AI coach for iPhone that plans swimming, cycling, running and strength as one week and keeps the next 7 days on your Garmin or Apple Watch. 14 days free, then $14.99 a month or $99.99 a year.
- One plan, hard days counted across sports: at most two a week (three above eight sessions), never back to back, about 80% easy, and a long ride plus a long run on the weekend that count as one.
- Garmin Connect and Apple’s WorkoutKit, so every session waits on the watch with your targets.
- Every change visible, with Undo: “The pool is closed Thursday” in the coach chat moves the swim.
- Tests when your numbers are unknown (run, FTP ramp, CSS) and recovery from HRV, resting heart rate and sleep against your own 28-day normal range.
Example: an Olympic-distance week, 7 sessions, Monday off
| Tue | Swim · 2,000 m with 8×100 m @ CSS (key), then strength · 35 min |
|---|---|
| Wed | Easy run · 40 min @ 5:35–6:07 /km |
| Thu | Easy ride · 60 min |
| Fri | Swim · 1,800 m easy with drills |
| Sat | Long ride · 2 h 30 min, mostly easy (long) |
| Sun | Long run · 60 min easy, the day after the long ride (long) |
An illustration of the rules: two hard days, Tuesday and the long weekend, which counts as one. Your week depends on your race, days and thresholds.
